How to Build a SolarWinds Analytics Dashboard for CPU Load in Excel
In this article, we’re going to build a report that allows us to present and analyze the CPU Load of our available captions. This report will have filtering mechanics, and we’ll also add various measures and metrics to make the data as useful and presentable as possible.

Step 1: To begin select a database
Step 2: Select your multidimensional database (MDB)
Step 3: Select the ‘NPM’ cube
Step 4: Now click on the ‘Next >’ button
Step 5: Click on the checkbox next to ‘Always attempts to use this to refresh data’
Step 6: Click on the ‘Finish’ button to leave the data connection wizard
Step 7: Now click the ‘OK’ button to finish importing data
Step 8: To begin filling in the PivotTable, click on the search bar and type in ‘caption’
Step 9: Click on the ‘Caption’ field under ‘Node’
Step 10: Click on the ‘Clear Search’ to get the search bar ready
Step 11: Click on the search bar and type in ‘percentage of load’
Step 12: Select the field ‘Percentage of Load’ under ‘Load’
Step 13: Now we want to sort the data, so we’ll click on the ‘Data’ tab
Step 14: Now to make the sort, we need to select one of the cells in the table
Step 15: Now click on the ‘Sort’ button at the top of the page
Step 16: Click on the selection button next to ‘Descending (Z to A) by:’
Step 17: Click on the dropdown arrow
Step 18: Select ‘Percentage of Load’
Step 19: Now click ‘OK’ to apply the sort to the chart
Step 20: Now click on the ‘Clear Search’ button
Step 21: Click on the search bar and type in ‘buffer’
Step 22: Now we can choose whatever metrics are best here. First we’ll go with ‘Buffer Critical Miss’
Step 23: And we’ll also take ‘Buffer Moderate Mix’
Step 24: Click on the ‘Clear Search’ button
Step 25: Click on the search bar and type in ‘dropped imcp packets’
Step 26: Select the ‘Dropped ICMP Packets’ field
Step 27: Click on the ‘Clear Search’ button again
Step 28: Click on the search field again and type in ‘percentage of memory used’
Step 29: Select the ‘Percentage of Memory Used’ under ‘Memory’
Step 30: To rearrange the columns (we want to get the percentage metrics to be next to each other) we can go to the bottom of the ‘Values’ section
Step 31: Click and hold on the ‘Percentage of Memory Used’ field
Step 32: Drag the field next to ‘Percentage of Load’, and it will change positions in the table
Step 33: Since we have so many rows, lets cut some of them away so that we only see the captions with the highest percentages of load. To do this, click on the drop-down arrow next to ‘Row Labels’
Step 34: Select ‘Value Filters > Top 10…’
Step 35: Click on the number ‘10’ next to ‘Top’, and we’re going to change it to ‘15’
Step 36: Click on the ‘OK’ button to cut down the chart
Step 37: Click on the ‘Clear Search’ button now so we can add another field to the chart
Step 38: Click on the search bar and type in ‘machine type’
Step 39: Select the ‘Machine Type’ field under ‘Node’
Step 40: Click on the ‘Clear Search’ button now so we can add one more field
Step 41: Click on the search bar and type in ‘ios version’
Step 42: Click on the ‘iOS Version’ field
Step 43: Now we have a report that shows the highest percentages of loads for the top devices. We also have many ways to modify the report to suit our specific needs
