Percentage Open Over 15 Minutes (BMC Truesight Operations Manager)


In this article, we will build a report to examine the metric Percentage of Events Open Over 15 Minutes. The product for this report is the BMC Truesight Operations Manager. We’ll be using many different visualizations to examine this metric, including a KPI, Line and stacked bar chart, and a Text Filter visualization which we’ll be showing how to download.

Or you can follow these steps:

Step 1: To begin the report, select the ‘NCA_EM_WS’ multidimensional database (MDB)

Step 2: Select the ‘Event Management’ cube

Step 3: Select the ‘OK’ button

Step 4: Select the arrow to close the ‘Filters’ pane

Slicer

Step 5: Select the ‘Slicer’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 6: Select the search field and type in ‘status’

Step 7: Select the ‘Status’ field from under ‘Classification’

Step 8: Select the arrow in the top right corner of the slicer

Step 9: Select the ‘Dropdown’ option

Step 10: Select the dropdown chart in the slicer

Step 11: Select the ‘CLOSED’ option

Step 12: Select the edges of the chart to resize it. We’ll be moving visualizations around the report in-between steps from now on

Slicer

Step 13: Now select another ‘Slicer’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 14: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘month’

Step 15: Select the ‘Month’ field

Step 16: We’ll select the months from ‘December 2013’ to ‘June 2014’. Make sure to press the CTRL key while clicking on a checkbox in order to allow multiple selections

Text Filter

Step 17: Now for the next part we’ll need to select the ellipsis section to ‘Import a custom visual’ section’

Step 18: Select the ‘Import from marketplace’ option

Step 19: Select the search bar and type in ‘text filter’

Step 20: Select the magnifying glass icon to perform the search

Step 21: Select the ‘Add’ button for ‘Text Filter’

Step 22: Select the ‘OK’ button

Step 23: Select the ‘Text Filter’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 24: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘event type’

Step 25: Select the ‘Event Type’ field

KPI

Step 26: Now select the ‘KPI’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 27: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘percentage of events open over 15 minutes’

Step 28: Click and hold on the ‘Value’ field from under the ‘Percentage of Events Open Over 15 Minutes’ KPI

Step 29: Drag it over to the ‘Indicator’ section

Step 30: Click and hold on the ‘Goal’ field

Step 31: Drag it over to the ‘Target goals’ section

Step 32: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘month’

Step 33: Click and hold on the ‘Month’ field

Step 34: Drag it over to the ‘Trend axis’

Step 35: Select the arrow for the ‘Show/hide pane’ to open the ‘Filters’ pane

Step 36: Select the ‘Expand’ option for the ‘Month’ filter

Step 37: Select the months from ‘March 2014’ to ‘June 2014’

Step 38: Select the paint roller icon to go to the ‘Format’ section

Step 39: Select the dropdown arrow for the ‘Color coding’ section

Step 40: Select the select the dropdown chart from under ‘Direction’

Step 41: Select the ‘Low is good’ option

Step 42: Select the ‘Show/hide pane’ to close the ‘Filters’ pane

Card

Step 43: Select the option ‘Card’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 44: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘events total’

Step 45: Select the ‘Events Total’ field

Stacked bar chart

Step 46: Select the ‘Stacked bar chart’ from ‘Visualizations’

Step 47: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘type of’

Step 48: Click and hold on the ‘Type Of Host’ field

Step 49: Drag it over to the ‘Axis’ section

Step 50: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘events total’

Step 51: Click and hold on the ‘Events Total’ field

Step 52: Drag it over to the ‘Value’ section

Step 53: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘percentage of events open over 15 minutes’

Step 54: Click and hold on the ‘Percentage of Events Open Over 15 Minutes’

Step 55: Drag it over to the ‘Tooltips’ section

Step 56: Next, right click on the top value in the bar chart

Step 57: Select the ‘Exclude’ option

Step 58: Select the arrow from the top of the ‘Filters’ pane to open it

Step 59: Select the dropdown arrow for the ‘Type Of Host’ filter

Step 60: Select the checkbox for ‘Select all’

Step 61: Select the checkbox for the ‘Computer’ option

Step 62: Select the ‘Collapse’ arrow for the ‘Type Of Host’ field

Step 63: Select the arrow to close the ‘Filters’ pane

Step 64: Select the arrow ‘Show/hide pane’ to close the ‘Filters’ pane

Line and stacked column chart

Step 65: Now select the ‘Line and stacked column chart’

Step 66: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘month’

Step 67: Click and hold on the ‘Month’ field

Step 68: Drag it over to the ‘Shared axis’ section

Step 69: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘events total’

Step 70: Click and hold on the ‘Events Total’ field

Step 71: Drag it over to the ‘Column values’ section

Step 72: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘percentage of events open over 15 minutes’

Step 73: Select the ‘Percentage of Events Open Over 15 Minutes’ field

Step 74: Right-click on the ‘December 2013’ bar from the chart

Step 75: Select the ‘Exclude’ option

Step 76: And I made a mistake earlier, so click and hold on the ‘Percentage of Events Open Over 15 Minutes’ field

Step 77: Drag it over to the ‘Line values’ section

Step 102: Now that we’ve finished, use the slicers and the text filter on the left side of the report to dynamically focus on different values in the chart
