How to Build an Event Management Dashboard for Percentage of Events Open Longer than 15 Minutes in PowerBI


In this article, we will build a report to examine the metric, Percentage of Events Open Longer than 15 Minutes. Finding repetitive problems with events that are open this long is crucial to building a robust and efficient system. We’ll make a fully interactive dashboard with drill-down features to help us examine this metric.

Step 1: To begin, we’ll select the multidimensional database (MDB) labeled ‘NCA_EM_WS’

Step 2: Then select an ‘Event Management’ cube

Step 3: Select the ‘OK” buttonStep 4: Go to the search field and type in ‘15’

KPI

Step 4: Go to the search field and type in ‘15’

Step 5: Select the ‘Value’ field under ‘Percentage of Events Open Over 15 Minutes’ to start making a KPI

Step 6: Select the ‘Goal’ field under ‘Percentage of Events Open Over 15 Minutes’

Step 7: Select the ‘KPI’ option from under the ‘Visualizations’ section

Step 8: Select the search bar, delete the last query and type in ‘month’

Step 9: Deselect the ‘Day Of Month’ option to finish the KPI

Step 10: Select the ‘Format’ option now so we can edit the KPI

Step 11: Select the dropdown arrow next to ‘Color coding’

Step 12: Select the dropdown under ‘Direction’

Step 13: Select the ‘Low is good’ option

Card

Step 14: Select the search field, delete the last query, and then type in ‘15’

Step 15: After making sure the KPI is deselected, select ‘Events Open Over 15 Minutes’

Step 16: Select the ‘Card’ option from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 17: Drag the card over next to the KPI

Treemap

Step 18: Now open up the ‘Treemap’ option from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 19: Now we’ll drag over and resize the Treemap

Step 20: Now select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘type’

Step 21: Select the ‘Component Type’ option to add it to the Treemap

Step 22: Select the search bar again, delete the last query, and type in ‘15’

Step 23: Select the ‘Events Open Over 15 Minutes’ field

Step 24: By selecting a part of the Treemap, we can highlight that component in the rest of the dashboard

Step 25: Selecting the section again removes the filter

Table

Step 26: Select the ‘Table’ option from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 27: Resize the chart to make it easier to see

Step 28: Select the ‘Events Open Over 15 Minutes’ field to add it to the table

Step 29: Select ‘Percentage of Events Open Over 15 Minutes

Step 30: Select the search field, delete the last query, and type in ‘alias’

Step 31: Select the ‘Alias’ field

Step 32: We’re going to rearrange the chart. Click and hold on the ‘Alias’ field under ‘Values’

Step 33: Drag the field to the top of the ‘Values’ section

Step 34: Select the search field, delete the last query, and type in ‘status’

Step 35: Select the ‘Hierarchy – Service Operational field

Step 36: Select the small arrow under ‘Events Open Over 15 Minutes’ to perform a sort

Clustered bar chart

Step 37: Select the ‘Clustered bar chart’ option from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 38: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘type’

Step 39: Select the ‘Type Of Host’ option to add it to the bar chart

Step 40: Select the search field, delete the last query, and type in ‘15’

Step 41: Select the ‘Events Open Over 15 Minutes’ field

Step 42: We’re going to get rid of this large bar that represents ‘Not Specified’ values. It’s significant, but it makes it difficult to see the rest of the values in the chart. Select the bar

Step 43: Select the ‘Exclude’ potion to remove it from the chart

Step 44: Same as the Treemap, we can select one of the parts of the bar chart to see the data for that host highlighted in the rest of the chart

Step 45: Select the bar again to undo the highlighting

Step 46: Now we have all the elements of the dashboard set up, and we can easily examine the data behind events open over 15 minutes
