Planning Your Installation


Planning your installation is important to determine which modules need to be installed on your Analysis server. Prepare your server environments in advance for any additional user interfaces that your organization will use to access your metrics data.


Verify The Minimum Requirements


MS Analysis Server (64-bit Recommended)

Minimum Hardware Requirements:

  • 2.0 GHz dual-core, 8GB RAM, 50 GB HDD (Depending on Size of ITSM DB)

Recommended Hardware:

  • 4+ core processor 2.0 GHz, 32+ GB RAM, 50+ GB HDD.

Minimum Software Requirements:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 (and above), IIS 6.0 (and above)
  • 2012 SP1 CU4 Standard or Enterprise (and above)
    • SQL Server Native Client
    • SQL Server Analysis Services
    • SQL Server Agent
    • Latest Service Pack
    • SQL Server Data Tools for Business Intelligence (SSDT-BI)
    • SSMS (with options to connect to all SQL Services)

MS Reporting Services Server (64-bit recommended, Not Required)

(Can be the same server as analysis services & can be virtualized)

Minimum Hardware Requirements:

  • 2.0 GHz dual-core, 4GB RAM, 20 GB HDD

Recommended Hardware:

  • 2.0 GHz 4+ core processor, 8+ GB RAM, 20+ GB HDD.

Minimum Software Requirements:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 (and above), IIS 6.0 (and above), ASP 2.0 (and above)
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard or Enterprise (and above)
  • SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Latest Service Pack

Data Warehouse (This is a SQL Server Database)

Minimum Hardware Requirements:

  • 2.0 GHz dual-core, 16GB RAM, 100 GB HDD

Recommended Hardware:

  • 4+ core processor 2.0 GHz, 32+ GB RAM, 100+ GB HDD

Minimum Software Requirements:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS 6.0 (and above), ASP 2.0 (and above)
  • SQL Server 2012 R2 Standard or Enterprise
    • SQL Server Native Client
    • SQL Server Agent
    • Latest Service Pack

Reporting Database Server (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB instances created during install)

Minimum Hardware Requirements:

  • 2.0 GHz dual-core, 4GB RAM, 5 GB HDD for databases typically installed on a database server hosting multiple databases (or cluster).

Install SingularIT


Active Directory Groups (or local accounts for nonprod)

  1. Create the following group:

DOMAIN\NorthcraftAdministrators, DOMAIN\NorthcraftReportUsers

Create Analytics Directory

  1. On the Analysis Server, create a path %:\Northcraft Analytics
  2. Save the Northcraft Analytics.zip file into that directory
  3. Decompress the project from that location

Configure The Project


Open the Project in Visual Studio

On the Analysis Server

  1. Open the ITIL Metrics for ITSM X.X.sln from the installed location in Visual Studio (SSDT-BI).
  2. Open the Solution Explorer Pane, under the folder “Roles” – Double Click Role: “ReportUser”
  3. Navigate to the Membership Tab and add the Active Directory Group DOMAIN\NorthcraftReportUsers and DOMAIN\NorthcraftAdministrators.
  4. Open the Solution Explorer Pane, under the folder “Roles” – Double Click Role: “Administrator”
  5. Navigate to the Membership Tab and add the Active Directory Group DOMAIN\NorthcraftAdministrator

Change the Database Connection

  1. Open Solution Explorer Pane.
  2. Right-click on the top item, ITIL Metrics for ITSM
  3. Select Properties
  4. In the Configuration Pane click on Deployment
  5. In the Target Windows, change the Server option to where the Analysis Services are deployed.

Update Source Database Server

  1. Open Solution Explorer Pane
  2. Under Data Sources, double-click on the data source.
  3. On the General Tab, select the Edit button.
  4. In the Server Name window, enter the server that contains the NCA_DW database.

Modify the Action Connection

Incident Management

  1. Open the Solution Explorer Pane
  2. Under the “Cubes” folder, double-click the Incident Management Cube
  3. Click on the “Actions” tab
  4. Click on the Incident Number Detail Report
  5. In the windows “Server” type the name of the server which Reporting Services uses as the Report Server
  6. In the window: “Report Path:” type the following: “reportserver?Reports/INC—Incident Detail&rs:Command=Render”

To add Incident Detail drill-downs using reporting services for the additional cubes.

Replace the cube name in step number 2 and continue the steps.

  • Incident Management
  • Request Management
  • Change Management
  • CMDB Management
  • Service Level Management
  • Release Management
  • Problem Management

Deploy SingularIT


SQL Server Data Tools for Business Intelligence

1. From the command ribbon at the top of the design studio, click “Build”.

2. Select the option: “Deploy ITIL Metrics for ITSM X.X”.

3. You may get a warning that the database has changed, Click “Yes” to proceed.

4. You will receive a confirmation that the Deployment was successful

SQL Server Management Studio

1. Start SQL Server Management Studio

2. Select Server Type: “Analysis Services” and enter the Analysis Servers name in the “Server Name” field

3. Select “Connect”

4. In Object Explorer Pane, expand Databases, expand ITIL Metrics for ITSM, expand Dimensions

5. Right-Click a Dimension and select “Process”, repeat for all dimensions

6. In Object Explorer Pane, expand Databases, expand ITIL Metrics for ITSM, expand Cubes

7. Right-Click a Cube and select “Process”, repeat for all Cubes where dimensions are already processed
