How to use Predictive Analytics for IT in PowerBI
This article will show you how to use static classification algorithms for ServiceNow (or any of our other solutions really) in the PoweBI desktop application to perform a simple basket analysis. We will use the Microsoft Quick Insights function to create a report, leveraging Northcraft solutions. This analysis is static and throw-away, but great for some initial data model exploration!

Step 1: Open PowerBI
Step 2: Select ‘Get Data’
Step 3: Select ‘SQL Server Analysis Services database’ This is the Northcraft Analytics multi-dimensional database. The SQL Server relational database is called NCA_DW typically. Please log a support request at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss the pros and cons of each.
Step 4: Select ‘Connect’
Step 5: Type in your on-premises server (xxxxx@domain) or SaaS server name (ex: https://public.xxxxxxxxx.com) to the Server field and select ‘OK’
Step 6: Select ‘Import’. Not ‘Connect live’ like usual.
Step 7: Select your multidimensional database (MDB) instance and corresponding cubes (typically the ITIL process area name)
Step 8: Select ‘INC – Incident Mangement’
Step 9: Select the cube associated with INC – Incident Management
Step 10: Open the ‘Incident’ folder
Step 11: We’re just going to collect some sample data. First, open the ‘Incident’ folder.
Step 12: We’re going to select ‘Average Time to Resolve’
Step 13: Next, select ‘Percentage of Incidents Meeting SLAs
Step 14: Open the ‘Counts’ folder
Step 15: Click the ‘Incidents Closed’ option
Step 16: Scroll down and select ‘INC – Incident Management’
Step 17: Click the ‘Hierarchy – Assignee’ option
Step 18: Next, we’re going to open the ‘Classification’ folder
Step 19: We’re going to get three options. First, ‘Subcategory’
Step 20: Then ‘Priority’
Step 21: And we’re also going to get ‘Category’
Step 22: Now open the ‘Configuration Items’ folder
Step 23: Next we’re going to open the ‘CMDB – Configuration Management’ to select a few more fields
Step 24: Scroll down to select ‘Manufacturer’
Step 25: ‘Model ID’
Step 26: And ‘Model Number’. Then click load.
Step 27: Wait for the data to load.
Step 28: Next, open a new table in the file.
Step 29: Now, we select all the options that we brought up earlier
Step 30: To make the data more useful, we’re going to filter out some of the ‘Not Specified’ fields
Step 31: Drag the Model ID field over to create a filter
Step 32: Change the filter type to ‘Advanced filtering’
Step 33: Set the filters to Show items when the value ‘does not contain’ . . .
Step 34: ‘Not Specified’ and apply the filter
Step 35: Now we’ll do that same thing to the ‘Subcategory’
Step 36: Drag it over to Filters again
Step 37: Again, change the filter type to ‘Advanced filtering’
Step 38: Again, filter out the items where the value ‘does not contain’ . . .
Step 39: ‘Not Specified’, and again apply the filter
Step 40: Next we click ‘Publish’
Step 41: Save the data in your files
Step 42: Publish the data to a destination of your choice. We’ll use “Demo”
Step 43: We’ll use ‘Demo’
Step 44: Select ‘Get Quick Insights to look at the results
Step 45: Next, select ‘Reports’ to see the report we just created.
Step 46: Hover over the lightbulb icon and select ‘Quick Insights’
Step 47: Now we’re able to look at all the data in a visually pleasing and dynamic arrangement with predictive analytics
