Component Host Name Search (BMC Truesight Operations Manager)


In this article, we will build a report to examine the metric Component Host Name Search. The product for this report is the BMC Truesight Operations Manager. We’ll be using many different visualizations to examine this metric, including a KPI, Treemap, and a small demo on changing themes in a report.

Or you can follow these steps:

Step 1: To begin, select the ‘NCA_EM_WS’ multidimensional database (MDB)

Step 2: Select the ‘Event Management’ cube

Step 3: Select the ‘OK’ button

Step 4: Select the arrow titled ‘Show/hide pane’ to close the ‘Filters’ pane since we won’t need to add any filters

KPI

Step 5: Now to start building the report, select the ‘KPI’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 6: Select the search bar now, and type in ‘percentage of events impacting services’

Step 7: Click and hold on the ‘Value’ field from under the ‘Percentage of Events Impacting Services’ KPI

Step 8: Drag it over to the ‘Indicator’ section

Step 9: Click and hold on the ‘Goal’ section for the ‘Percentage of Events Impacting Services’

Step 10: Drag it over to the ‘Target goals’ sections

Step 11: Click and hold on the search field, delete the last query, and type in ‘closed date’

Step 12: Click and hold on the ‘Closed Date’ section field

Step 13: Drag it over to the ‘Trend axis’ section

Step 14: Select the paint-roller icon to go to the ‘Format’ section

Step 15: Select the ‘Color coding’ section

Step 16: Select the dropdown chart under ‘Direction’

Step 17: Select the ‘Low is good’ option

Step 18: Drag the edges of the chart to resize the visualization. We’ll be rearranging the visualizations in between steps from this point on

KPI

Step 19: Select another ‘KPI’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 20: Click and hold on the search field, delete the last query, and type in ‘percentage of events critical’

Step 21: Click and hold on the ‘Value’ field from under the ‘Percentage of Events Critical’ KPI

Step 22: Drag it over to the ‘Indicator’ section

Step 23: Click and hold on the ‘Goal’ field from under ‘Percentage of Events Critical’

Step 24: Drag it over to the ‘Target goals’ section

Step 25: Click and hold on the search field, delete the last query, and type in ‘received date’

Step 26: Click and hold on the ‘Received Date’ field

Step 27: Drag it over to the ‘Trend axis’ section

Step 28: Select the paint-roller icon to go to the ‘Format’ section

Step 29: Select the ‘Color coding’ section

Step 30: Select the dropdown chart under ‘Direction’

Step 31: Select the ‘Low is good’ option

Card

Step 32: Select the ‘Card’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 33: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘events total’

Step 34: Select the ‘Events Total’ field

Step 35: Drag it over to the ‘Fields’ section

Text Filter

Step 36: Select the ellipsis icon so we can download a new visualization

Step 37: Select the ‘Import from marketplace’ option

Step 38: Select the search bar and type in ‘text filter’

Step 39: Select the ‘Add’ button for the ‘Text Filter’ visualization to import it

Step 40: Select the ‘OK’ button in the pop-up window to confirm the import

Step 41: Now select the ‘Text Filter’ visualization to use it in the report

Step 42: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘component host’

Step 43: Click and hold on the ‘Component Host’ field

Step 44: Drag it over to the ‘Field’ section

Treemap

Step 45: Select the ‘Treemap’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 46: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘component host’

Step 47: Click and hold on the ‘Component Type’ field

Step 48: Drag it over to the ‘Group’ section

Step 49: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘average event duration’

Step 50: Click and hold on the ‘Value’ field from under ‘Average Event Duration’

Step 51: Drag it over to the ‘Values’ section

Table

Step 52: For the last visualization, select the ‘Table’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 53: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘component host’

Step 54: Select the ‘Component Host’ field

Step 55: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘alias’

Step 56: Select the ‘Alias’ field

Step 57: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘location’

Step 58: Select the ‘Location’ field

Step 59: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘component type’

Step 60: Select the ‘Component Type’ field

Step 61: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘events total’

Step 62: Select the ‘Events Total’ field

Step 63: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘events closed’

Step 64: Select the ‘Events Closed’

Step 65: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘percentage of events critical’

Step 66: Select the ‘Percentage of Events Critical’ field

Step 67: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘average event duration’

Step 68: Select the ‘Value’ field from under ‘Average Event Duration’

Step 69: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘percentage of events impacting services’

Step 70: Select the ‘Percentage of Events Impacting Services’ field

Step 71: Now that we’ve finished with all the data, we’re going to go to the ‘Format’ section by selecting the paint-roller icon

Step 72: Select the ‘Style’ option

Step 73: Select the dropdown chart under ‘Style’

Step 74: Select the ‘Alternating rows’ option

Step 75: Now at the top of the chart, select the ‘Switch Theme’

Step 76: Select the ‘Classic’ option

Step 77: Now we’ve finished the report, and we’re able to use the Text Filter to dynamically focus on different sections of the data
