Analytical Project & Portfolio Overview Dashboard (ServiceNow ITBM)


In this article, we will build a report to serve as a template for report building in general for the ServiceNow ITBM product. We’ll be going through the creation of a couple bar charts, slicers, and a table to illustrate the creation process.

Or you can follow these steps:

Step 1: To begin, select the ‘AMITSM – ServiceNow – PPM’ multidimensional database (MDB)

Step 2: Select the ‘PPM – Project’ cube

Step 3: Select the ‘OK’ button

Step 4: Select the arrow titles ‘Show/hide pane’ to close the ‘Filters’ pane

Slicer

Step 5: To begin building the report, we will use an array of slicers. Select ‘Slicer’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 6: Select the search bar and type in ‘date.value’

Step 7: Go to the bottom and select the ‘Date.Value’ field from under ‘Time – Project Start Estimated’

Step 8: Select the left field for the date and enter ‘1/1/2018’

Step 9: Select the edges of the chart to resize it or click and drag to move it around the report.  We’ll be rearranging visualizations in between steps from now on.

Slicer

Step 10: Now select another ‘Slicer’

Step 11: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘stage’

Step 12: Select the ‘Stage’ field

Step 13: Select the arrow in the top right corner of the slicer

Step 14: Select the ‘Dropdown’ option

Step 15: Select another ‘Slicer’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 16: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘project type’

Step 17: Select the ‘Project Type’ field

Step 18: Select the arrow in the top right corner of the slicer

Step 19: Select the ‘Dropdown’ option

Slicer

Step 20: Select another ‘Slicer’ from under ‘Visualizations

Step 21: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘progress’

Step 22: Select the ‘Progress’ field

Step 23: Select the arrow in the top right corner of the slicer

Step 24: Select the ‘Dropdown’ option

Stacked Bar Chart

Step 25: Now to begin building the rest of the report. Select the ‘Stacked bar chart’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 26: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘primary portfolio’

Step 27: Click and hold on the ‘Primary Portfolio’ field from under ‘Project’

Step 28: Drag it over to the ‘Axis’ section

Step 29: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘stage’

Step 30: Click and hold on the ‘Stage’ field

Step 31: Drag it over to the ‘Legend’ section

Step 32: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘projects total’

Step 33: Click and hold on the ‘Projects Total’ field

Step 34: Drag it over to the ‘Value’ section

Table

Step 35: Select the ‘Table’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 36: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘project short name’

Step 37: Select the ‘Project Short Name’ field

Step 38: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘project start estimated’

Step 39: Select the ‘Date.Value’ field

Step 40: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘project end estimated’

Step 41: Select the ‘Date.Value’ field

Step 42: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘project cost baseline’

Step 43: Select the first field, titled ‘Project Cost Baseline’ under ‘Count’

Step 44: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘project cost estimated’

Step 45: Select the ‘Project Cost Estimated’ field

Step 46: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘project cost actual’

Step 47: Select the ‘Project Cost Actual’ field

Step 48: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘hours allocated total’

Step 49: Select the ‘Hours Allocated Total’ field from under ‘Resource’

Step 50: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘risks total’

Step 51: Select the ‘Risks Total’ field

Step 52: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘issues total’

Step 53: Select the ‘Issues Total’ field

Stacked Bar Chart

Step 54: Select the ‘Stacked bar chart’ from under ‘Visualizations’

Step 55: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘project manager’

Step 56: Click and hold on the ‘Project Manager’ field from under ‘Project’

Step 57: Drag it over to the ‘Axis’ section

Step 58: Select the search bar, delete the last query, and type in ‘projects total’

Step 59: Click and hold on the ‘Projects Total’ field

Step 60: Drag it over to the ‘Value’ section

Step 61: Now we’ve finished building the report, and we can use the slicers to dynamically filter the data
