Change Approval Bottleneck Analysis


In this article you will use PowerBI to create a dashboard to analyze bottlenecks using Change Approval. This dashboard will have drill-down capabilities and provide you with important metrics that will increase the understanding of the specific strengths and weaknesses in each area of business.

Step 1: Begin by opening up PowerBI and type in your on-premises server (xxxxx@domain) or SaaS server name (ex: https://public.xxxxxxxxx.com) to the Server field and select ‘OK’

Step 2: In the ‘Navigator’ section, select the ‘ITIL Metric for ITSM 4075 – RemDash’ multidimensional database (MDB)

Step 3: Select the ‘CHG – Change Signature’ cube

Step 4: Select ‘Ok’

Step 5: Move over to the ‘Visualizations’ section and select the ellipsis symbol.

Step 6: Select the first selection ‘Import from file’

Step 7: Select ‘Import’ at the pop-up

Step 8: To get the visualization we need, use the file that holds Super Bubbles

Step 9: Select ‘Ok’ in the pop-up.

Super Bubble

Step 10: Open up a new ‘Super Bubble’ visualization.

Step 11: Open the ‘Change Signature (Measures)’ folder

Step 12: Select the ‘Change Signature Count’ field

Step 13: Next open the ‘Change Signature’ folder

Step 14: Next select the ‘Full Name’ option

Slicer

Step 15: Next, open up a ‘Slicer’ visualization

Step 16: Next select the ‘Approval Status’ option

Step 17: In the ‘Approval Status’ Slicer select ‘Pending’ to change the Super Bubble

Table

Step 18: Next open up a ‘Table’ visualization

Step 19: Next open up the ‘CHG – Change Management’ folder

Step 20: Select the ‘Hierarchy – Product’ option

Step 21: Under the ‘Visualizations’ section close out the fourth selection under ‘Values’, ‘CHG – Change Management’ [Hierarchy – Product]’

Step 22: Also close out the value immediately above it.

Step 23: Finally, select ‘Change Signature Count’
